Costa Rica
(Video coming soon - hopefully)
As the name implies, the rich coast of Costa Rica is one for lovers of flora and fauna. Laying in the centre of central America, Costa Rica offers pretty much everything you could wish for: A wonderful but different culture, Jungles meeting the ocean on beautiful beaches, heaps of animals, warm temperatures, lots of coffee and so on.
Although we were used to rent a car, we chose this trip to be a classical backpacking adventure (again). Last time we were solely dependent on public transport was a few years ago, so we were curious for this way of travel! Our travel itinerary took us (with transit-stops in the US) from the main capital of San José to the volcanic regions of the Arenal Nationalpark (La Fortuna). After hiking around this place, enjoying the waterfalls and the volcanic environment, we made our way to Monteverde and it’s Cloud Forests. Thats where I got those stunning hummingbird pictures.
From Monteverde, which reaches up to elevations of 1800m, we travelled down the south-western coast over Jacó to Drake Bay at the Corcovado Nationalpark. Here we saw most of the amazing animals, including our special encounter with the humpbacks, which turned out to be one of the best pictures I took from them so far. Furthermore, we got to enjoy monkeys, crocodiles and baird tapirs, which’s colony at the Corcovado is one of the worlds most healthiest. From down there, we slowly made our way up north again along the coast. Mainly to surf and enjoy the beaches of Jacó and Uvita, before heading home.
Thanks for tuning in!
