Back in 2010, I seriously started learning new tricks with the intention to keep up with the national elite of riders and maybe turn pro. Throughout that time I made it onto the Podium of several Pro events such as the Dreck Attack, the T-Mobile Local Support Challenge, The Downmall Tour, Heroes of Dirt and several other smaller Contests as well producing video projects. With these successes my first sponsoring deals came, with one of them lasting long until recently: Nookie Bikes. However, next to several bad injuries, we also started building our own Dirt Park in which I got heavily involved in and which started to shift my focus on creating something new for the scene. This soon resulted in the hosting of our first contest in 2012, The Vollgas Jam. Over the coming years I sure rode heaps and improved, but not in a rate that was enough for keeping up with the crazy level of today’s elite. Instead, I was able to focus my riding the fun stuff such as riding shows around the globe and working on projects in and for the scene, such as this one:

My father was the initiator of finding our group of friends a legal place to ride, as we were too young to organize a spot by ourselves at that time. Thanks to the major and officials from the City of Zwingenberg, first works began in early 2011 and by 2012 we finally had ridable lines on which the first ever Vollgas Jam was hosted in September of that year.

Since then we’ve got better at building jumps and wooden kickers, grew a wonderful team of friends and founded our own club section with an increasing number of members. This year we’ve completely renewed the Dirtpark with lots of work still to come. However, once the work is done the spot will be elevated to a whole new level, so stay tuned!…

The Vollgas Jam has gone through an amazing process of progression and professionalization. Everything started with an idea to keep the legacy of regionally based Dirt Jump Contests along the Bergstrasse. Inspired by the Dreck Attack events that were hosted only a few villages north from Zwingenberg, we hosted the first edition of the Vollgas Jam in 2012. As we also wanted to bring something new to the scene, we were one of the first events to incorporate the flood-light session to the contest format.

Since then and eight events later, the Vollgas Jam is internationally renown for its unique and crazy vibe, bringing heaps of new spectators to the spot every year and luring pro riders from all over Europe to Zwingenberg. The event is also part of the international Freeride Mountainbike World Tour (FMB). As a bronze event, riders collect world tour points at our event which potentially open the doors to the bigger events such as Silver and Gold Events or even the Crankworks Events.

Doing Shows: Team Airtime

In 2013 I teamed up with a group of riding buddies to get ahead of plans we always had been dreaming of. So, after a year of planning, we came up with a concept and a mobile show ramp which can fold effectively in order to get it into small (and large) indoor stages and arenas. As I like a definition of luck being preparation that meets opportunity, we got the possibility to ride our first show in late 2014. Team Airtime was born.

Now, a few years further, we've been riding shows in Germany’s biggest cities and arenas, across Europe and we even made it over the pond riding shows in Nova Scotia, Canada (check the video down below this section).

This year unfortunately, due to COVID, the whole event industry was shut down, which meant the cancellation of approx. a dozen shows for us. We’re hoping to get back together and on our bikes soon next year!
