Whales
These gentle giants are truly the most amazing and stunning proof of why nature is the so important and worth taking care of! When I came to Australia I only hoped to see at least a back fin of a Humpback or maybe even see one jumping, but that we’d witness such majestic interactions of whales and dolphins and also get to see them jump … I wouldn’t have believed anyone showing me the footage below. Well, it did happen and I am grateful for the experience. As they migrate north and past the NSW coast in the months of June and July, we witnessed the peak time the humpbacks when traveling from the cold feeding grounds in Antarctica to the warmer mating and breeding grounds in northern Queensland Australia.
For anyone of you being so into whales as well, here is a very rare and crazy moment we witnessed on a whale watching cruise in Port Macquarie. We followed this whale around, but he just kept on cruising (just breathing from time to time but not jumping or showing any other exciting behavior). Finally, just when our skipper said that we’d have to return to the harbor, this whale put on quite a show and let us stay a little longer….
Enjoy a collection of pictures I’ve made both, from shore, boats and (mainly) from the air:
